Bright Hills is renowned for hospitality, especially with Middle Eastern Flair!  Bring your special someone and all your friends and family as we celebrate romance in true SCA style, complete with singing, dancing, learning, and a lavish crusader’s feast!  Join the Barony of Bright Hills as we celebrate our Baronial Birthday! 

The event officially runs from 10am to 10pm, volunteers for set up and clean up outside of those hours are welcome!  Schedule and activity updates will appear on event webpage at: http://parchmentandpcs.com/Pages/birthday.html

Martial activities: Heavy weapons fighting will be held weather permitting, MIC Lady Swieczka Kaim, swieczkahorse@hotmail.com, armor inspection will begin at 11am and the melee and tavern brawl will be followed by extended practice for fighters looking forward to springtime tourney season.  Archery will also be held weather permitting, contact Lady Katarzyna Nowina Witkowska at k_hawk_us@yahoo.com

A&S activities: A&S display area will host displays of projects completed or in progress for commentary.  Specific competitions will be held as well.  We also invite experienced artists to display their arts and documentation to inspire those who are learning how to develop documentation and prepare displays for competition.  Bring your project and documentation for display.  Contact Mistress Chagan Khulan at chagankhulan@comcast.net (see "Competition Details" below)

A class in Finger Loop Braiding will be offered by Mistress Branwen Wallis, O.L.   For those who took Lady Reyne's class on Jan. 29th this is a fine opportunity to broaden your skills.  We hope many folks will take advantage of this class and create cords for Their Royal Majesties to give with the various award medallions they will present during their Courts.

Mistress Branwen will be supplying materials. You need bring only a pair of scissors. However, if you wish you may bring materials for additional work after the class.  Materials should be 2 skeins of embroidery floss of each color or one ball of number 5 pearl cotton in each color.  If possible an RSVP to chagankhulan@comcast.net would be appreciated to be sure enough supplies are on hand.

Our Bright Hills Baronial Brewing Champion will be chosen at Birthday so bring your entries! (see "Competition Details" below)

Lord Richard Wynn will host the third annual Bardic at Five Paces- a Bardic Bear Pit competition- come prepared with your best bardic skills!  Contact Richard with questions at rickwyn1@aol.com  or see "Competition Details" below

Tavern space will also be available for bards to congregate, sing, swap stories, share songs and brew mischief with the Bright Hills “sekunjabin bar” hosted by Lady Livia di Samuele.

 

Bright Hills heralds will have a consult table open during the day for your herald edification and preparing submission of names and devices.

Children’s activities: We will have the ever popular “children’s corner” and activities will be available through the day.  Parents must supervise their child while at children’s corner! No youth minister will be available! The populace will be able to commission valentines made by the quite artistic youth of Bright Hills and all young artists will compete for the favor of the Baroness for their valentines.

The Saturday lunch will be offered as a fundraiser by the Bright Hills archers.  The evening crusader’s feast will be prepared by the famed Bright Hills Cooks Guild with Lords Bruce and Seamus as head cooks.  Complete menu is available on the event website, please notify the autocrat of any food allergy issues by February 1st at the latest.

Total refunds will be available if the reservationist or autocrat receives your request by February 6th, 2010. Onsite feast refunds are available ONLY if we are able to resell your seat.

RESERVATIONS: Send reservations to Autocrat.  Advance reservations for feast are highly recommended as only 10 seats for feast will be available at the door, the only good reservation is a paid reservation, please include your member # and expiration date if you are reserving at the member rate.  Registration will be open the day of the event from 10am-4pm.

SITE NOTES: This site is discreetly wet, conforming with all applicable laws.  No smoking in any building.  No Pets are permitted on site.  The building is handicapped accessible and has accessible restrooms.


Directions:


From the South: Take your best route to I-795 northwest of the Baltimore Beltway (I-695) and continue to Exit 9A toward Hanover, merge onto Butler Rd/MD-128/MD-795, Turn left at Hanover Rd./MD-30 and continue 13.4 miles then turn right on York St. and go 0.3 miles to destination on right.  The entrance is at the corner of York and Locust streets.


From the North: Take I-83 south to Exit 8 for PA-216 South toward Glen Rock, follow onto PA-216/Sticks School Rd., take Right at PA-516/Lineboro Rd., Continue East on Main St./MD-86, make slight left on Water Tank Rd., continue straight onto Millers Stations Rd., continue on York St. to destination on left.

10:00am: Site Opens, Registration Opens, Music Begins

10:30am: Morning Court

11:00am: Armor Inspection, Family Corner Opens and Valentines can be commissioned until 12noon, Music, Fingerloop Braiding Class

12:00pm: Lunch is served

1:00pm: Music, Family Corner Opens and Valentines can be commissioned until 2pm, Heraldic consults till 3pm

2:00pm: Bardic Bearpit Competition begins

4:00pm: Registration Closes, Love Poem Contest and Dancing commences if Bardic Bearpit is complete

5:00pm: Court followed by Love Poem Contest

6:00pm: Feast

10:00pm: Event ends, volunteers help clean hall and kitchen!

The Bright Hills Archers will be offering lunch, as a fund raiser, at the Bright Hills Baronial Birthday celebration on February 13th. Lunch will be $3.00 with sweets for $0.50-$1.00

Competition Details

An OPEN DISPLAY of both finished or in-progress works of all sorts. Bring your documentation and chat with folks about your latest project.

A&S Baronial Champion

To choose the next Baronial A&S Champion we will have a theme of "Always the Best From The Bright Hills". Entries should  be work done in the past year that you think is your best! No restriction on what type of art, it can be anything from Illumination to Armor and everything in between! Documentation is encouraged but not required (extra points for having it). Those entering the other competitions being held for the day can be part of this, If you enter something in any of the other A&S competitions and want your entry to also be considered for A&S champion, please be sure we know so it can be counted and judged for that competition as well!  Master Tristan (current Baronial A&S Champion) 

Bardic Bear Pit

Brewing Baronial Champion

Noble brewers, you are invited to the Barony of the Bright Hills to help us celebrate Bright Hills Birthday at the Bazaar on February 13. There will be a Brewing Competition with awards in the following categories:
beer/ale
wine/mead
cordials
non-alcoholics

If there is only one entry in a category, it will be the judges discretion as to whether a prize is awarded. To be considered for Baronial Brewer, you must enter in at least 2 categories. There should be no more than 2 entries in a category, but you can enter as many categories as you like. Recognition and prizes will be offered for the best presentation, overall winner and Baronial Champion. We will use the standard Atlantian Brewing Competion Judging form.


Best Use of Baronial Badge

A Baronial competition - "Best use of the Bright Hills populace badge", sponsored by Her Excellency, Martelle von Charlottenburg, might stir your imagination to find the most creative use of the Baronial populace badge.

"Flavors from Afar"

A cooking competition - "Flavors from Afar", enter a dish using exotic spices that would have been available in period in a Middle Eastern Bazaar. Documentation is required. Our judges will sample your entries but the remainder of the dish will go to High Table as a treat during feast. Since the kitchen will not be available to use, you will need to prepare your dish prior to arriving at the event. We may be able to accommodate crock pots or slow cookers if your dish must be warm. Kindly advise in advance if that is the case. This competition is sponsored by Chagan Khulan, Baghsi.

Love Poem

A poetry competition - "Best Middle Eastern Love Poem" - A poem inspired by the Song of Solomon, sponsored by Lady Katarzyna Nowina Witkowska. More details to follow....soon

”A TABLE FOR THE SULTAN”

A competition is offered for dressing your feast table with style! There will a prize for the best Middle-Eastern dressed table, and should the judges be so moved, other prizes may be available in categories such as “Most Opulent,” “Most Colorful,” or “Most Beautiful.” Sponsored by Lady Yseulte Trevelyn
